Emma Watson won the first award of the night, the Best Actor Award, at MTV Movie Awards for her performance as Belle in Beauty in the Beast, but her lengthy acceptance speech seemed to bore quite a lot of people.
The “Beauty and the Beast” star took home the Best Actor in a Film award for her role as Belle in the 2016 Disney reboot, and she used her speech to highlighted the importance of the MTV Awards doing away with gender-based categories for the first time ever.
The general reaction to Sunday’s speech was positive, as summed up in several Web publication headlines. The HuffPost’s headline claimed the speech “Left Us All Feeling Inspired.” Mashable’s called it “majorly inspiring, duh.” MTV, perhaps self-servingly, called it both “beautiful” and “super inspiring.” However, many viewers who’d tuned in to the MTV Movie Awards, a snappy, two-hour award show usually associated with fun stunts and scandalous outfits, couldn’t help but wonder if the Harry Potter star was guilty of taking the event a little too seriously
